TheBlogBunny Has a Day Job... or Five

Adjusting to Life Off the Clock

Normal workweeks don't work for me! I know, I know-- we all feel that way and we'd all love to give up the Monday through Friday nine-to-five grind.

But seriously. I can't do it, guys. And I really have been trying. For like, decades (...okay, one decade). What stopped me for the longest time is the same thing that probably stops everyone: I was convinced if I scaled back a bit, I'd fail and die alone and cold.

     Well....so far, so good.

About two months before launching my Etsy shop, I started making decisions to scale back a bit on the work front. Truthfully work was slowing down and I was driving myself nuts worrying about scraping the necessary number of hours together to get through the week. Most of my downtime was spent switching from depressed catatonia to manic panic and for the sake of my mental health, I had to make the change-- so I made one.

Now instead of worrying about the status of one job, I find myself swinging between five-- and I love it! I spend a day in this office, a few in that one, a weekend dogsitting, a couple hours making files over here... and the rest of time is spent painting, managing my store, expanding inventory, and making plans. It's a pretty sweet gig.

Don't get me wrong, because of course there is still stress. My weeks are less predictable and money is a little tighter, but there is some peace of mind in knowing that I'm not stuck in one place doing one thing. Life is better with variety, and I've got a lot of it now.

Now that I am through the first month of the shop launch things are starting to slow down a little bit and look slightly less hectic. This gives me a little more time to think a little further ahead about things like inventory expansion and brand cohesiveness. More importantly, with a little more mental space freed up, I'll actually have more energy for things like painting...or jet-skiing.

STAY TUNED: Over the next few weeks Nick and I will be working on adding more inventory to the shop. We'll also be designing our first craft fair booth display!!

NEXT WEEK: We'll be talking about some of our favorite beach day drinks, including recipes for killer jell-o shots (seriously, use caution with these babies)!

Introducing The Blog Bunny

The Beach Bunny is a Florida-based online retailer which specializes in recycled and repurposed home decor and more!

Available through Etsy.

This blog is being published in connection with the launch of my shop The Beach Bunny on Etsy, and will contain the mostly coherent musings of a crafty beach rat.

The Beach Bunny began as a simple garage operation inspired by a stockpile of reclaimed pallet wood and an expansive collection of quality paints. We've expanded our inventory to include repurposed bottles, instruments, thrift-store finds, and have plans to include more utilitarian items like key holders and coat hangers. Larger items such as wine racks and end tables coming soon!

Our shop still operates out of the garage and is managed by Casie (design), Nick (carpentry and accounting), and Grace (social media and marketing).

The Blog Bunny is written and published by Casie, who never thought of herself as a designer or painter, but ended up doing both anyway. Casie has worked in many various fields ranging from food service to manufacturing to law, but has always pursued creative hobbies in her free time. In addition to painting, Casie also works with clay, photography, collage, mixed media, jewelry, and graphic design.
